Our mission
The Veroli Foundation is created by a team of researchers from various scientific disciplines. Our primary goal is to support and disseminate culture, art, protection of cultural property and cultural heritage. We are interested in topics related to the formation of European civilization (understood as a conglomerate of Greek-Byzantine, Roman-Latin, Judeo-Christian and Islamic, and Slavic-Germanic traditions) in the first millennium AD, and in earlier periods. We examine the material culture, architecture and art of European communities and the Mediterranean world, as well as the importance of religion (paganism, Christianity, Judaism, Islam) and the cultural influence of the communities of the Middle East, North Africa and Anatolia on shaping European civilization. We are also interested in intercultural transfer understood as the exchange of goods and ideas, human mobility, and transport and communication between communities in Europe and the Mediterranean world.
The Veroli Foundation is also a kind of “training ground” where for research purposes we not only use traditional tools and methods of modern archeology and science, but also test new ideas and technological solutions. For this reason, our activities are based not only on cooperation with scientific research institutions in the field of humanities, but also with technical institutes and companies and startups offering new, revolutionary technological solutions. The inspiration in this respect comes from Polish excavations in Biskupin carried out in the 1930s. The discovery of an unusual Lusatian stronghold prompted Polish researchers at that time to look for unconventional solutions. Experiments were carried out, among others: with aerial photography or underwater research, creating the foundations of modern archeology workshops. Our methods of operation are therefore full of technological innovations.
